We have been busy this week learing about the Chinese New year. The students have been learning about Chinese customs surrounding the lunar new year celebration. This year is the year of the Tiger and we discussed which year each child was born. Children born in 2003 were born in the year of the Ram, 2004 were the year of the Monkey and 2005 were the Rooster.
Next week we will be celebrating the 100th Day of School! On Thursday February 4th students are encouraged to dress up as 100 year olds! We will also be collecting cannned goods toward a goal of 100 cans for the Capitol Area Food Bank. Check Thursday folders to learn more and see which ingredient we need your help bringing for our 100 Day snack!
Thanks!!!

Field Trip and MLK!
Wow! Things have been moving right along these last two weeks. We have finished up our dinosaur unit and I think the kids enjoyed it a lot. The students investigated fossils, read about different types of dinosaurs (plant and meat eaters) and learned about paleontology! We have also been busy adjusting to changes in our classroom procedures.
On Tuesday we will be visiting the Texas History Museum at the University of Texas. I am thankful for the parent volunteers who signed up to help and would like to encourage any parents who wish to come along to meet us at the museum. I have never been to the Texas History Museum and am excited to learn about our local history along with the students.
We will also be celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King this week. This offers our class a special opportunity to talk about fairness, respect and equality - all things that we wish to instill in our youngster!
See you soon!
Mr. Garland
P.S.
I realize that I did not include a calendar in this months Thursday folders. I will try and get something ready for next Thursday. Also, I am going through the parent permission forms and will soon be posting classroom pictures!

Great first day!
I was so excited to see all my kinder friends today and to hear all of their stories from vacation! We had a very successful first day back and began our study of fossils. We also reviewed school procedures and practiced some of the new routines that I have implemented. The kids had a lot to absorb today, but did a great job of being on task and respecting each other! Be sure to check Thursday folders this week for report cards and other important information. Thanks!
